Another jewel of the Bridgend area is the castle of Kenfig with its secret buried town covered by the ever changing and drifting sand dune system. The once important norman castle was established in the first half of the 12th century.

My view by Gaina Morgan

Name: Gaina Morgan

From: Sker Farm, Porthcawl

What do you do: Proprietor of Ty Gwyneth

Favourite local place and why: Sker and Kenfig. The area is unique and quite magical. I am so pleased that Sker House was saved and that some elements have restored.

Where do you like to eat locally: Prince of Wales. The food is fantastic and Gareth Maund the Proprietor also ensures that guests receive a 1st class welcome.

Tell us 1 thing about yourself / or tell us something interesting: I am an accomplished milkmaid – I used to milk 100 cows at Sker (age 15) and first met my husband in the yard after he came to help.

Surf ‘n Turf

I’m not a surfer or a golfer but told that there’s a growing trend energing amongst both sports – a hybrid surf n turfer that plays golf when the surfs not up. Apparently, world renown surf champion Kelly Slater loves both sports and there’s even a clothing range being launched to cater for the new hybrids? Not sure.

Anyway, Porthcawl in our own neck of the woods appears to be perfect for this. You have two renown courses in the Royal Porthcawl and the Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club adjacent to great surf breaks at Rest Bay and further along the coast at Kenfig beach. So maybe we should challenge oursleves in the office here to try both sports at once and test the water so to speak!
